I don't know how many people know this, but I'm not really a big fan of, um, drawing. I guess its fun, but knowing that people enjoy seeing my work makes me really happy and encourages me to continue improving. so, thanks, everyone

I am pretty intent on finishing the pilot chapter soon, because I want to actually start having fun with the characters. I'm finally getting used to my college workload, so I am trying to get things running again
also I might have some other comics coming out... nothing really long or interesting, but I comics are something that I really do sincerely enjoy drawing, haha.

good news!!!: my wonderful mother - who I do not appreciate as much as I should - bought me a new scanner.
it has not shipped yet though, so I am estimating maybe a week or two for it to get here.

my scanner is no longer compatible with my computer.
this wouldn't normally be a big problem, but I'm not really comfortable with drawing straight on the computer.

that being said, until I can afford a new scanner (which will take some time), my activity is probably not going to be so impressive... sorry, guys
that also means that Ballroom Blitz won't be updating for a while longer (which really bugs me because I really want to be done with the pilot chapter)... although, if things go according to plan, I should start stocking up on partially completed pages. I hope.

it suddenly occurred to me today that i can basically spend all of my extra money on comic books.
I LOVE HAVING A MEAL PLAN AND ON CAMPUS HOUSING!

there is a wicked comic book joint within walking distance of my dorm, so its probably my new favorite place in this town. also, there's an art supply store downstairs from the place... HELL YEAH.

so, question time (as usual)! what kind of comics do you guys read/whats your taste in comics?
i really read basically anything with panels and art that appeals to me, haha. technically, i read American, Japanese, Korean, and Canadian (LOL) comics. genre-wise, everything from superheroes to bubbly shoujo to just... weird.
i will honestly buy a comic book simply based on the art/general pacing, just because i like to look at different techniques and paneling styles. i can see myself taking a course here in college just because I loooove seeing the difference in comic styles from author to author, or from culture to culture. its just really cool to me, hahaha.

i really, really cannot read comics that have art i don't like, regardless of the story. its kind of sad, but if its a comic i think i need to like the art, you know? i can understand that certain styles suit certain comics, but if the art is just BAD (to me), i can't do it. e.g. i will never be able to read a CLAMP series. i'm sorry, i just absolutely cannot stand their art, to the point where i can't enjoy the rest of the comic.

i like comics with strong, independent female characters, but my favorites are the ones with young male leads (this is actually true for me with books, too). i think its fun to see how authors portray that character-type, especially in different genres and situations. so i love the charismatic ones, the cowards, the jerks... they're all pretty cool to me.

and... i secretly love romantic comedies. i've reread Lovely Complex and High School Debut a bunch of times. actually, i love anything Aya Nakahara publishes hahaha. her stuff is so fantastic

i can't stand comics where the main characters are losers... and i mean in the sense that, this isn't really a gag comic, its for serious, but the side characters are more interesting than the main one.
and i really despise the girl comics where the lead girl is pathetic and can't do anything without thinking about the studly guy she's lusting after. like, seriously, you have a pair of god damn legs, use them to support yourself for god's sake.
... b-but i love Kimi ni Todoke. i don't think it fits into the category i just mentioned because Sawako really is trying her hardest, and she's being supported by her own determination and her friends... its a really cute series ;_;

yeah but I'm more or less moved in, here in my dorm. i still have to put up posters and put my shit on my shelves, but its pretty good so far. classes don't start until Monday, though, so i'm kind of bored out of my mind, gahaha.
plus, there are a few major problems that i have been having:

1: Windows 7 is being a bitch (to be fair, it is just the beta...)
2: Windows 7 isn't picking up my scanner and i have to wait for my parents to mail me the CD which i... conveniently left at home...
3: Photoshop is fucking shit up.

i actually attempted to use ImageReady instead of Photoshop (because for some fucked up reason ImageReady works...), but its a little awkward.
but at least i have installed my tablet and printer!!! although my tablet is acting a little weird with this new driver i downloaded and my printer does not really do anything other than... print...
also the tablet being overly sensitive does not help with how weird it is to use ImageReady for coloring shit. i'm sure i can figure out the sensitivity problem, but like i said, new driver thing... not really completely sure how to use it, haha.
